Ben Roethlisberger accolades

Not only did Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger make history on Sunday evening when he threw for 522 yards, six touchdowns and earned his 100th win of his career, he was named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week as an immediate reward for his efforts. Roethlisberger set new Steelers franchise single-game records in completions, passing yards and passing touchdowns. This is the 10th time in Roethlisberger’s career that he’s been named the AFC Offensive Player of the Week and was honored last season in Week 11 for his performance against the Detroit Lions. Also in the bumble bee uniforms. Coincidence? I hope not, they’re so ugly. But, his stats, along with the win sure to make up for that ugliness of the uniforms.

Midseason Report

The Around the NFL Team gave out their Midseason report and listed the players/coaches/teams they think have already “made the leap” in 2014. Among those making the leap are Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell, who is on pace for more than 2,000 yards from scrimmage for this season. Chris Wesseling sees good things in the second-year back out of Michigan State.

"“Bell showed promise as a foundation back capable of playing all three downs but lacking big-play ability as a rookie. After dropping 15 pounds, he’s been a playmaking machine this year. On pace for 2,172 yards from scrimmage, Bell is third in rushing yards and second among running backs in receptions and receiving yards. While DeMarco Murray has rightfully hogged the spotlight this season, NFL Media’s LaDainian Tomlinson believes Bell has made the leap to the best running back in football. As Sunday’s historic performance showed, the Steelers have the young talent to lead the league in offense the rest of the way.” – Chris Wesseling"

Adams and Allen’s demotions

Alan Robinson of the Trib points out that two starters from Sunday’s win over Indianapolis will be demoted for the Ravens game but with two very different outlooks. Mike Adams will resume is backup role at right tackle as Marcus Gilbert is returning from a concussion. Cortez Allen will have to play his way back into the rotation after being benched for being awful in just about every instance on the field so far this season. It should be noted that Allen does lead the team in interceptions (2) but he also leads the team in getting burned repeatedly by whoever he’s covering at the moment so he’s going to stop “putting bad stuff on tape” if he wants back in the starting position.
