Cam Heyward: We have to move in the right direction

The Steelers entered the South Side facilities on Monday to watch game tape and look to correct the mistakes made on the field on Sunday against the Jets. Teresa Varley caught up with Steelers defensive end Cameron Heyward on where the Steelers go from here.

"“The ability is there; it’s just about going out and doing it. We have to have our focus and mindset on the Titans this week. We can’t forget what happened, but we have to move past it. We have to move in the right direction and clean up the stuff that put us in trouble this past week. It all depends on how we respond, how we approach this week and not make this loss define us. It starts with our practice, with our preparation, and with the Tennessee Titans. If we can do that we can go out and accomplish our goals.” – Cameron Heyward"

Steelers Grades

Spoiler alert, the team failed this week in terms of their grades. ESPN’s Scott Brown gives us his grades through the quarterback to the coaches on Sunday’s loss to the Jets. Ben Roethlisberger scored a D for throwing two costly interceptions after having only thrown three over the Steelers’ previous nine games. The running backs also scored a D with a lowly 2.1 yards per carry on Sunday. Antonio Brown and the receivers scored a C- for Brown’s two fumbles but rookie Martavis Bryant continues to be improving each week. The Defensive line scored a C+ but allowed 150 rushing yards to the Jets. Special teams scored a D- for a missed 23-yard field goal and an (debatable) offsides penalty on Darrius Heyward-Bey that negated the recovery of an onside kick. The coaches scored an F for the overall sloppiness of the game and not taking advantage of a Jets secondary that was ripe to be exploited.

Steelers Report Card

Gerry Dulac of the PPG also handed out grades for the Steelers loss to the Jets. He also gave the team an overall F for the frustratingly bad performance all around. Dulac wasn’t as nice with his grading. The only unit that got over a D was the linebackers, who scored a C- for Jason Worilds getting 1.5 sacks. Overall failure is a pretty correct assessment for the Steelers on Sunday. Frustratingly puzzling to have gone from the highs of the previous three weeks to the lows on Sunday. The Steelers get an extra day of preparation this week before their Monday night game against the Titans and by the looks of what they put on the field on Sunday, they’re going to need it.
