Keisel’s working

Teresa Varley caught up with some of the Pittsburgh Steelers players after player meetings wrapped up on Tuesday before the guys disbursed for the bye week. She found that Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel doesn’t necessarily look at the week as a week off.

"“There is always work to be done. There are always ways to improve and get better. That is what the bye week is for. Guys that are nicked up can get some rest. Guys that need the work and need to get out on the field and work can do that. It’s beneficial in a lot of ways and helps you prepare for your next game.” – Brett Keisel"

Why do I feel like Keisel spends the bye week just eating lots of pancakes?

Timing of Blount’s release says a lot

The Pittsburgh Steelers aren’t typically known as an organization that cuts ties with people very lightly. As LeGarrette Blount release shows how fed up the Steelers were. As ESPN Steelers reporter Scott Brown explains, that should clue fans in on just how fed up the team was with LeGarrette Blount to have released him early Tuesday afternoon. In the summer time all of Steeler Nation anticipated watching the one-two punch of Bell and Blount, with Dri Archer jumping in here and there with some speedy plays. While none of that materialized, Bell is having a phenomenal season and showing himself to be reliable and productive and his own one-two punch with his rushing and receiving skills. Apparently that didn’t sit well with Blount and Steelers coach Mike Tomlin had a decision to make, particularly after Blount fled the game early Monday night, leaving a bad taste in everyone’s mouth. Tomlin could risk losing Blount knowing how thin the team was at the running back position, or he could risk losing the locker room to a guy that definitely was separating himself from a “team first” mentality. He chose to release Blount instead.

Ben Roethlisberger on Blount

Ben Roethlisberger joined 93.7 The Fan in his usual Tuesday morning spot and addressed his thoughts on Blount leaving his teammates before the game had ended and if there was a way back to the teams’ good graces after an act like that. Granted, this interview was given before Blount was officially released from the team.

"“It will be touch if it was just for pure selfishness and he was just upset about not getting the ball or whatever and walked out because he is a new player to our team. If it was a guy who has been here for a while and we know and it was just a lapse in judgment and he was upset about something, I think it would be easier to look past. But, it will be tough if it was just for pure selfishness reason because that is not what the Pittsburgh Steelers are. It’s not what we are about, but like I said, I don’t know anything about that yet so I’m not going to judge right now.” – Ben Roethlisberger"

Think about the very beginning of the season and when WR Lance Moore wasn’t being involved in the offense very much at all. The difference in a professional and Blount is how Moore handled himself while he worked his way back into the offense and never pulled a childish stunt like that.
