Steelers Game Day Grub: Bye Week

So the Pittsburgh Steelers have the weekend off and you’re wondering what you’re going to do with yourself on Sunday. Of course you’re going to still watch football, if only to see if the Bengals, Ravens, or Browns can lose and provide you with some enjoyment for a non-Steelers football day. We’ll go ahead and throw the Patriots in that bunch too; nothing brightens a cold, Steelerless Sunday quite like a Patriots loss.

More from Still Curtain

Since it’s the bye week, and we’re depressed without our Steelers, let’s go ahead and eat our feelings today with some tasty dessert, shall we? Now I’m not going to get into a big complicated pastry or anything like that, just something quick and delicious that will feed your emotions while missing Le’Veon Bell rushing for 200+ yards or Ben Roethlisberger throwing six touchdowns. They’ll be back soon, don’t worry.

It’s always good to have a quick and easy dessert to go to should you ever find yourself in need of bringing something to a party or pot-luck. This was originally thought up by my mother as a summertime dessert which is basically like a lazy fruit cobbler. You take a bag of frozen, say peaches, and throw them in a baking dish and cover the top with that ready-made sugar cookie dough and bake. It’s a delicious combination and couldn’t be simpler!

Chocolate Strawberry Cobbler

My sister took it up a notch when she discovered chocolate cookie dough in the super market. She combined a jar of strawberry pie filling with a bag of frozen strawberries and topped with the chocolate cookie dough. Bake under the directions on the cookie dough package and make sure you’re wearing elastic-waist-band pants for this one!

Enjoy the games and the grub!

Here we go Steelers! Here we go!
