Stopping Charles

The Pittsburgh Steelers have allowed only one 100-yard rusher in the last six games, says ESPN’s Scott Brown. If the Steelers defense can extend that to seven they’re likely to secure their first playoff spot in three years and that will mean they’ll have successfully contained Jamaal Charles. That’s no easy assignment, containing the Chiefs’ all-time rushing leader, a back that has 5.52 yards per carry average for his career. Stop Charles and the Steelers will stop the Chiefs and clinch their playoff spot.

Shamarko’s Story

Shamarko Thomas was drafted in the fourth round of the 2013 NFL Draft out of Syracuse. Teresa Varley gives us much more insight into Thomas’ life in a profile for the Steelers website. Shamarko grew up moving around a lot, as his stepdad was in the Navy. He experienced tragedy at a young age, losing his stepdad while he was in high school and then losing his mother while he was in college. Today, he has three of his younger siblings living with him and attending school in Pittsburgh along with his three children. He prays to his mother and stepfather before every game and it’s in their memory that he drives to succeed.
