Steelers Le’Veon Bell Inactive For Ravens Game

The Pittsburgh Steelers announced early Friday afternoon that running back Le’Veon Bell is officially ruled out of the AFC Wild Card Playoff game vs. the Baltimore Ravens.

Bell was the second-leading rusher in the NFL this season but suffered a hyper-extension of his right knee in the AFC North division-clinching victory over the Cincinnati Bengals last week. He’s been unable to practice all week as a result.

Before panic sets in just remember that the Steelers  are going up against a Ravens team with a very weak secondary, a secondary that Ben Roethlisberger had his way with in their last meeting to the tune of 340 passing yards and six passing touchdowns. Bell had only 20 rushing yards on 10 carries and less than 40 receiving yards.

The Steelers signed veteran running back Ben Tate this week and are prepared to give undrafted rookie Josh Harris the start in Bell’s place. There’s also Dri Archer there to do…something I suppose.

I don’t know if I particularly like the Steelers tipping their hand so early to the Ravens on Bell’s status but it does make sense to avoid the heavy questioning and attention they’ve been getting about it for their last day of practice. They must have confidence in the combination of Harris, Tate and Archer to know they don’t need to push Bell into a game he may not be physically ready for.

There’s also the comfort in knowing that the Steelers got to this point on Ben Roethlisberger’s arm and they can definitely advance on it as well.

What are your thoughts, Steeler Nation? Are you panicking at the thought of going without Le’Veon Bell on Saturday night?

Here we go Steelers! Here we go!
