What We Learned in Week 11 in the NFL:

Three games end in overtime

Patriots open up a can on Luck

Eagles still suck without Vick

Norv Turner’s seat should be on fire by now

The Jets manage a victory but are still a mess

Steelers remain winless against Ravens without Big Ben

We haven’t had a Monday morning like this in a while have we? Nothing can ruin the start of the week worse than a Steelers loss. That little extra sprinkle of suck on top of your sucky Monday morning is because this loss was at the hands of the Ratbirds, who have won 3 straight against the Steelers going back to last season. There were some positives to take away from the game but we’ll get into that later, there’s some cheap shots we need to take first. (more…)

What We Learned in Week 9 in the NFL:

Luck has the Colts better off than anyone predicted

Chicago defense rips apart Tennessee

Falcons remain unbeaten

Steelers battle Giants and Refs and come out on top

Don’t look now but the Steelers are stacking wins. This is one of those weeks where I find myself searching for things to say about the other games that were played before I can just go on and on about the Steelers. Actually, there were some pretty poor matchups on the slate for Week 9 across the board. The Colts reached 5-3 after a very good performance by Andrew Luck against a very good Dolphins defense. Chicago completely obliterated Tennessee and continued their streak of scoring defensive touchdowns. The Atlanta Falcons remain the NFL’s only unbeaten team as the Cowboys continue to struggle living up to the constant hype that surrounds them no matter how crappy they are. Ok that’s enough, now onto the Steelers game. (more…)

What We Learned in Wee 2 in the NFL:

Replacement refs are getting better…at ruining our Sunday afternoons

Rookie class of QB’s bounce back in Week 2

Vick pulls out another game winning drive

Greg Schiano brings bush-league to the NFL

Steelers ground Jets in spite of horrible officiating

If the first Monday after Week 1 in the NFL is overreacting Monday, than the second Monday should be known as back to reality Monday. Who had the Arizona Cardinals at 2-0 and the Saints at 0-2? Fans finally get to see if their team’s week 1 win or loss was a fluke, or a sign of how the season might go. For a lot of teams, it’s the first chance to iron out the kinks that might have held them back from starting their season with a victory. Except for maybe Cowboys fans, it’s less likely to overreact after the Week 2 games than after Week 1. (more…)

It’s that time of year again when I gaze into my crystal ball and pull out sure to be inaccurate predictions for the NFL season that is upon us. I’d like to say that there is an in depth statistical analysis that goes into my picks but it’s so much more than that. There are also my deep rooted biases and a hefty amount of guessing that goes into it as well. When it all comes down to it, those “analysts” that get paid to do this are pretty much guessing as well. There’s no way to know who’s going to get injured, who else is getting suspended, and who is just going to tank. Not since the Patriots in 2003 has the team with the best regular season record hoisted the Lombardi Trophy surrounded by confetti that same February. Just as the Packers and Giants from last season can tell you, it’s all about getting hot at the right time. So without further ado, here go my predictions sure to go wrong team by team for the 2012 NFL season. (more…)

What We Learned in Week #2 in the NFL Preseason:

Sanchez and Tebow compete for worst QB in New York against the Giants

Peyton throws 2 INT in Mile High debut

Replacement officials still stinking up the joints

Steelers defense picks off Luck twice

In the preseason, final scores don’t mean a whole lot. The stats aren’t even recorded for any kind of official purposes. The main reason for the games is to evaluate the rosters and implement formations and schemes. What is important in the preseason is how the first team offense and defense performs in the limited amount of time they are on the field. Typically, the 3rd game of the preseason will have the starters seeing most of the action but the second week most starters played the majority, if not all, of the first half of the games. Some had success; some have some work to do, and some just plain stink. (more…)
