What We Learned in Week 12 in the NFL:

Jets embarrass themselves on Thanksgiving

Lions screwed on controversial call

Chargers let Ravens comeback to win in OT

Steelers turnover victory to Browns

What’s worse than a Monday morning after a Steelers loss to the Ravens? A Monday morning after a Steelers loss to the Browns. There aren’t many things uglier than that game was yesterday. If it had been an actual football team the Steelers were playing yesterday rather than the Brownies, it would have been a massacre. We’ll get more in depth into that a little later; let’s get some aggression out first by taking some cheap shots. (more…)

What We Learned in Week 4 in the NFL:

Jets get blanked at home by 49ers

The Dolphins still make Hootie cry

Cam Newton fumbles win

Green Bay gets screwed by refs twice in the same week while Saints remain winless

Peyton Manning’s arm apparently isn’t a wet noodle

There’s nothing like an exciting slate of football game finishes to make up for lack of Steelers football on a Sunday. As a fan of the NFL it sure was nice to watch games without the ridiculous officiating that had plagued the first three weeks of the season. The real refs are back and it’s much better to scream at qualified guys rather than the foot locker employees. (more…)

The circus that is the New York Jets will be rolling into town this weekend and based on how they performed in their Week 1 matchup against the Bills as compared to how the Steelers performed against the Broncos, the biggest question will be what can Steeler Nation expect to see Sunday afternoon? Unfortunately the Steelers are already dealing with injury woes with both James Harrison and Troy Polamalu questionable if not doubtful for Sunday’s game. The Jets are also dealing with injury issues that could potentially keep former Pitt star Darrell Revis from traveling to Pittsburgh as he’s coming off a concussion and hasn’t yet been cleared for contact. And then there’s Tebow. (more…)

What We Learned in Week #1 in the NFL:

Saints suspension reversal not enough to lift past RG3

Eagles barely edge out Browns in an interception-fest in Cleveland

Adrian Peterson is not human

Jets find their offense

Replacement refs still in way over their heads

Steelers start the season same way the season ended last year

Welcome to overreaction Monday. The first NFL Sunday is behind us and it’s time to start taking individual performances and blow them completely out of proportion. The NFL week actually started on Wednesday night with the NY Giants becoming the first defending Super Bowl Champs to lose their opening game since 1999. Then the league was rocked Friday afternoon with the news that a judge panel had overturned the suspensions of the players involved in the Saints bounty scandal as well as the news that longtime NFL owner Art Modell had passed away. The league was instructed to observe a moment of silence before each game, except for Cleveland, who was instructed by the Modell family to refrain from any mention of Modell at all. Pretty odd request but I can see how the family didn’t want to see a possible bad reaction by the still bitter Cleveland crowd, who has hated Modell since moving the team to Baltimore in 1996. (more…)

It’s that time of year again when I gaze into my crystal ball and pull out sure to be inaccurate predictions for the NFL season that is upon us. I’d like to say that there is an in depth statistical analysis that goes into my picks but it’s so much more than that. There are also my deep rooted biases and a hefty amount of guessing that goes into it as well. When it all comes down to it, those “analysts” that get paid to do this are pretty much guessing as well. There’s no way to know who’s going to get injured, who else is getting suspended, and who is just going to tank. Not since the Patriots in 2003 has the team with the best regular season record hoisted the Lombardi Trophy surrounded by confetti that same February. Just as the Packers and Giants from last season can tell you, it’s all about getting hot at the right time. So without further ado, here go my predictions sure to go wrong team by team for the 2012 NFL season. (more…)
