4pm on the East Coast has come and gone. And, Mike Wallace is without an offer and deal from another team. This is far from over, but the Steelers have gone from being in the back seat of Mike Wallace’s free agency vehicle to sitting in the drivers seat (while Wallace has yet to decide if he wants to sit next to Colbert or in the back).

Wallace won’t be getting Fitzgerald type money this season – or maybe ever (that’s up to how he plays). Wallace has two options now: Sign by June 15th to get the $2.7 million tender and stay on the team for a year OR not sign the tender and lose another $2.1 million (and put his roster spot on the team in jeopardy). That’s right, another $2.1 million. The Steelers can choose to cut his tender down to $577,500 if he refuses to sign by the 15th.

Is Wallace willing to lose another 2.1 on top of the 9 million he’s already lost by demanding an outrageous sum? I doubt it, but he could dig in his heels and test the patience of the Steelers. Word to the wise – if he does that he can expect to not play. The Steelers find value in Wallace, but historically do no negotiate with players once the season starts. Quite the pickle for a guy who probably thought he was on his way out of the ‘Burgh in February. Not the case. How the tables have turned.

What’s everyone’s take on this?
